Framing

Hi and thank you to everyone that has taken a look at my store and for all the sweet words, encouragement, and support. It means so much

I thought today I would talk about framing! I think repurposing old, forgotten frames is the perfect accent to our little birds.  You wouldn’t believe how many old frames I have collected in my travels that I have repainted and repurposed to frame a new painting. There are so many treasures out there in thrift stores, garages sales and estate sales, that are for sale or even given away. There is no way these picture frames should be ending up in our landfills.

Of course selling my little birds framed on this online store wouldn’t be cost efficient in mailing with breakage and postal fees.  But I hope the unframed pretty little bird that you buy will find a place in your house in a frame that is reloved.

Ooooh what a long winter!  I woke up this morning in the beautiful Shuswap, BC to rain falling on 2 feet of snow!  But those beautiful birds  keep coming to the sunroom. I've started to paint some original little baby owls, in watercolour .....they are darling. It's all in the eyes. But isn't it always!

Thanks so much for checking into the site and please come back for a visit!!

Today is one of our first big snow falls!  It never fails to surprise me to see our clever, cheeky little chickadees finding our bird feeder in our back yard. They are such a curious bunch, and super organized for their lunches and dinners!!!  They come in as a team and have their fill by taking turns ...I wonder if they let their grammas and grampas go first ....?

Salmon Arm is a small town in the interior of B.C. Canada.  We have quite a large lake system, called the Shuswap lake with over one thousand kilometres of shoreline!!!!!  If you haven’t come for a visit yet you really should. We have great beaches, houseboats, water skiing and camping !  In addition to our annual bird count, we have big bird news!!!  All the fuss is about a beautiful fieldfare , a member of the thrush family and native to Northern Europe, Asia and North Africa ...not sure what he’s doing in our little town but I will paint it and add it to the store!

Welcome to my first post!

This is so exciting.....

Painting  to me is like candy....I love it!!  Sometimes I will sit down with a cup of tea, a bit of music and my paints and completely lose my day.   I will look down after a couple of hours and can’t believe the funny little birds that have come to me ....!  Time just slips away, and the darlings that are left on the paper seem to have appeared by magic.

I’m a self taught artist... well I will use that loosely as I wasn’t taught at all!!!  Water color sort of teaches you!  And I love it.

My dear sister in law Kelley bought me the most gorgeous set of Sennelier French water color paints and I use Arches 140 lb cold pressed, 100% cotton fibre papers.  I have learned that using the best paint and paper does make a huge difference. One that I hope comes through with my little originals.

Thank you for reading my first of many posts!  Off to shovel the half a foot of snow we got last night and bring a bit of bird seed out to our little chickadees that I can hear out the window!

Till next time, take care.
